About English Tea Time

Our Story

The English Tea Time Community blends the practice of conversational English with the enjoyment of afternoon tea. Our refreshing English Tea Time experience makes learning English a delight!


In 2015, while teaching English in Turkey, we discovered tea time each day was a wonderful opportunity for intentional conversational English practice.  Since that time, with several countries and languages represented, English Tea Time has helped many  grow more confident in their conversational English skills.

Our Philosophy

Prior to founding English Tea Time, Sarah Joy taught English in a variety of settings: schools, homes, churches, community spaces, outside under tarps.  You name it!  She observed the benefits of structured classes as well as the strides made during conversational English practice.  Her love for her students met her fondness for tea time, and English Tea Time was formed.

Communication is central to life.  In the United States, learning to speak English with confidence makes life easier.   Meaningful conversation practice provides opportunity for English language skills to develop in a safe, real-life setting.  Knowing they are part of a community gives students the freedom to practice speaking English in a friendly space over a cup of tea.

We are so happy to be a part of the local community.  We have larger teas you are welcome to join. We also have a team of tea time hostesses ready to meet with you individually as well.

Whether you prefer to join one of our larger conversational teas or you would like to schedule a smaller conversational tea, you are welcome here and 

you belong!
